UK Civil Aviation Authority’s newly-launched GA Unit to present at the AeroExpo on June 1st

LONDON, 2014-5-29 — /Travel PR News/ — Pilots attending this weekend’s AeroExpo event at Sywell Aerodrome will be able to hear first-hand how general aviation will be regulated over the coming years. The UK Civil Aviation Authority’s newly-launched GA Unit will be holding an inaugural event on Sunday 1 June at the Northamptonshire show, to put forward its de-regulation agenda. The Unit is already committed to introducing more effective regulation that supports and encourages a dynamic GA sector.

Members of the GA Unit team will set out in detail specific plans to reduce as appropriate the regulatory burden on the GA sector, at the event, being held in the main seminar room at Sywell. The two-hour session, which is also expected to be attended by Government Ministers, as well as the CAA’s Chief Executive, Andrew Haines, will be open to anyone attending AeroExpo. The Head of the GA Unit, Tony Rapson, will give an overview of his team’s strategic objectives, which will be followed by breakout sessions allowing pilots the opportunity to pose detailed questions.

The creation of a dedicated GA Unit within the CAA emerged from the Government’s Red Tape Challenge in 2013, which explored ways to reduce the regulatory burden on the general aviation sector. The 25-strong Unit has been assembled from airworthiness, flight operations and licensing specialists from across the CAA. All have significant knowledge and experience of general aviation, with most being active private pilots. The Unit is based in the CAA’s Aviation House facility in Gatwick.

The CAA is the UK’s specialist aviation regulator. Its activities include: making sure that the aviation industry meets the highest technical and operational safety standards; preventing holidaymakers from being stranded abroad or losing money because of tour operator insolvency; planning and regulating all UK airspace; and regulating airports, air traffic services and airlines and providing advice on aviation policy.
