TUI discovered the potential of Cape Verde early on and substantially contributed to the development of tourism on the island state. Tourism has meanwhile become the most important industry in the country located 450 kilometres off the West African coast. In addition, TUI Care Foundation runs projects in the country. In cooperation with local initiatives, the non-profit foundation protects the breeding grounds of sea turtles on the beaches and engages local communities and partners in the protection of the turtles.
