Travel Alberta: Indigenous Music Day at Studio Bell to feature youth-friendly activities on June 21

On-site programming to honour the legacy of Canada’s Indigenous Peoples through music

Calgary, AB, Canada, 2018-Jun-13 — /Travel PR News/ — Join the National Music Centre (NMC) for Indigenous Music Day at Studio Bell on June 21, featuring music and youth-friendly activities that celebrate the cultural diversity of Canada’s Indigenous Peoples.

Indigenous Music Day at Studio Bell will coincide with celebrations happening across Canada in honour of National Indigenous Peoples Day and Aboriginal Awareness Week in Calgary.

Studio Bell will be open on June 21 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm with on-site activities and entertainment that includes:

  • Live music from Métis singer-songwriter, Sandra Sutter
  • Traditional dance and drumming performances from Thundering Nations
  • Indigenous art demonstrations and displays

NMC is pleased to partner with Aboriginal Awareness Week Calgary for another year in a row to honour and recognize the distinct heritage, cultural practices, and outstanding musical contributions of Indigenous Peoples.

“At the National Music Centre, we believe in the power of music to break cultural barriers, act as an entry point to learning, and enable people to meet on common ground,” said Adam Fox, NMC’s Director of Programs.

“Indigenous Music Day is a great opportunity for visitors to explore and honour the music and culture of Canada’s First Peoples, and to encourage discussion around reconciliation.”

To support accessibility on Indigenous Music Day at Studio Bell, the National Music Centre will be extending free admission on June 21 to visitors who identify as Indigenous or of Indigenous decent. Reception will accept identification or declaration upon entry.
