2013-09-04 — /travelprnews.com/ — Tourism Australia has confirmed its Instagram profile, @Australia, is the most followed holiday destination globally with more than 200,000 followers worldwide.
New data released today highlights the most popular features of Tourism Australia’s Instagram profile, which is powered by its followers who hashtag their own images with #seeaustralia. The best of these images are chosen to become the six daily posts on @Australia.
Tourism Australia Managing Director, Andrew McEvoy said people who travel to and through Australia are powerful advocates for selling our destination to the world via social media channels like Instagram.
“Instagram is an ideal social media platform to accentuate Australia’s credentials as a holiday destination as it is purely image-based, allowing fans to post photos in real-time and showcase what makes Australia a unique and special place to visit,” Mr McEvoy said.
“With more than 130 million active monthly users worldwide, Instagram is rapidly growing in popularity.
“Being able to share stunning images from advocates of Australia with this vast audience is a very powerful marketing tool for us,” Mr McEvoy said.
The infographic data provides a snapshot of activity on the @Australia Instagram profile, including popular destinations to feature from each state, the most liked photos and the top fans who contribute images to @Australia.
Since launching @Australia almost two years ago, the most popular post to date of Whitehaven Beach in Queensland attracted more than 19,230 likes. The infographic also reveals that turtles are a huge hit with followers, as are iconic landmarks such as the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the 12 Apostles on the Great Ocean Road.
As well as managing the @Australia Instagram profile, Tourism Australia also has the largest Facebook page in Australia and largest destination page in the world, with more than 4.7 million fans, along with an active presence on Twitter, Google + and Asian social media platforms Weibo and Tudou.
