Tourism Australia: 7.2% rise in short-term visitors to Australia during the month of April 2015 according to Australian Bureau of Statistics

SYDNEY, 2015-7-6 — /Travel PR News/ — The latest international arrivals data for the year ending April 2015 released today by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) reveal a 7.2 per cent rise in short-term visitors to Australia to 7.1 million.

Australia welcomed 551,400 visitor arrivals during the month of April 2015, an increase of 4.7 per cent relative to the same period of the previous year.

Leisure arrivals (holiday and VFR) continued to drive international arrivals growth, with an increase of 6.1 per cent over the 12 month period.

Tourism Australia managing director John O’Sullivan said that overall Australia is still seeing solid growth in 2015, with international arrivals above 8 per cent in the first four months of this year, slightly ahead of where we finished last year.

“Stand outs would be the continued strong performance of the Americas and Asia, once again reinforcing the critical importance of adopting a balanced portfolio in our international marketing.

“The feedback from Australian operators and international buyers at the Australian Tourism Exchange in Melbourne last week was very upbeat, suggesting a positive outlook for the rest of the year,” Mr O’Sullivan said.
