The Indianapolis International Airport to host a Real ID event on Oct. 17 – 18, 2019

Travelers must comply with new identification requirements in 2020

INDIANAPOLIS, IN, 2019-Oct-16 — /Travel PR News/ — The Indianapolis International Airport (IND) will host a Real ID event on Oct. 17 – 18, 2019, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Hoosiers can schedule to attend the event where personnel from the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) will help travelers upgrade their driver’s license or state identification card to be Real ID compliant.

This event is one of the many customer service focused events the Indy airport puts on each year. This specific event is a crucial opportunity for the public to comply with new identification requirements set to go into effect soon. Beginning on Oct. 1, 2020, travelers much present a Real ID-compliant driver’s license or identification card, or another acceptable form of identification, to fly commercially within the United States. Individuals without proper identification documents will not be permitted to pass through the airport security checkpoint and will not be allowed to fly.

Members of the public who plan to attend the Real ID event are strongly encouraged to schedule an appointment online prior to the event and to check RealID.in.gov to ensure they bring all required documentation. A very limited number of walk-in appointments will be available throughout each day.

“The BMV and the Transportation Security Administration are working diligently to help the public be aware of the Real ID requirement for flying and provide events like this to become compliant before the law goes into effect,” said Indianapolis Airport Authority Executive Director Mario Rodriguez. “We strongly encourage the public to take advantage of this opportunity.”

The event will take place in Ticketing Hall One on the south side of the main level (third level) of the airport terminal. Participants will receive airport parking validation. Please note the Mobile Branch only accepts credit and debit cards, no cash or checks.

“We want Hoosiers to have options when conducting business with the BMV, and are excited to partner with the Indianapolis Airport to host this mobile branch event,” said Indiana BMV Commissioner Peter Lacy. “This is a phenomenal opportunity for folks traveling through the airport or working nearby to conveniently upgrade to a Real ID. We strongly encourage all Hoosiers to upgrade sooner, rather than later, to avoid flight or accessibility issues in the future.”

Click here to schedule a 15-minute appointment at the Mobile Branch. When selecting the branch location, please choose “IND Airport October 17-18” in the registration tool. Participants can upgrade to a Real ID, renew their registration and more.
