Hershey, Pa. –2012-10-22 — /travelprnews.com/ — The Hershey Story, The Museum on Chocolate Avenue and ZooAmerica North American Wildlife Park invite Scouts to participate in workshops and activities this November.
On Saturday, November 3, The Hershey Story will offer the Indian Lore Boy Scout Merit Badge Workshop from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Scouts can explore the museum’s fall exhibit Beauty All Around: American Indian Art and earn their Indian Lore merit badge*. The program includes the creation of three American Indian objects. Boy Scouts will also learn to play American Indian games and take an in-depth look at Susquehannock artifacts. The cost to participate is $15 per Scout and pre-registration is required. Scout leaders may accompany Scouts at no charge.
The exhibit showcases objects from five regions, each a reflection of its artistic excellence. Scouts will see stone carvings and woven cornhusks from the Eastern Woodlands Indians; quill and beadwork from the Great Plains Indians; pottery and jewelry displayed in the Southwest section; and bark and wood carvings showcased in the Northwest Coast region. The exhibit also features richly decorated baskets from renowned weavers of the California Pomo tribe, including some smaller than a dime.
ZooAmerica will celebrate its 10th annual “Girl Scout Days” on Saturday, November 10 and Sunday, November 11, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Junior Girl Scout groups will have an opportunity participate in demonstrations and discussions, which fulfill elements for the Animal Habitats Skill-Building Badge*. Brownie Girl Scouts will have an opportunity to participate in badge activities and can complete requirements for the Bug Legacy Badge*. The cost to participate is $10 per scout and pre-registration is required.
