2013-09-30 — /travelprnews.com/ — The biggest and heaviest aircraft in the world, the “Antonov AN 225” had a successful landing at Bahrain International Airport (BIA) on Thursday, 26th of September 2013, at 2:30pm. The largest heavy-cargo aircraft in the world arrived to Bahrain from Cairo International Airport.
Known to the aviation worlds under names like Mriya – which translates to dream – and Cossack, the airplane’s landing at BIA is considered a great milestone that showcases the high-quality facilities and services at the airport and its’ readiness to receiving all aircrafts regardless of size or type.
Following the unloading of cargo, the gigantic plane took off on Friday 27th September heading back to Ukraine.
Antonov AN 225 is the heaviest strategic cargo aircraft manufactured by Antonov in the 1980s originally to transport the Buram Spaceplane. The aircraft is equipped to carry very heavy shipment up to 250 tons and 70 meters in length within its’ spacious surface area, which is powered with 16 double wheels and six turbofan engines. Although two aircrafts of the same kind have been manufactured, Antonov AN 225 is the only aircraft of its’ kind available for service.
