2012-07-23 — /travelprnews.com/ — Hundreds of South African supporters gathered at O.R. Tambo International Airport today to bid the 2012 SA Olympic Team farewell. 140 Olympic qualifying athletes led by their mascot as well as team managers were greeted with cheers from fans at the International Trade Bureau (ITB) at O.R Tambo International Airport.
Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) Security and Safety departments in partnership with the Airports SAPS assisted in the seamless facilitation process to the 2012 London Olympics. “As an international airport we are always ready to assist with events of this nature which are of national significance. Being part of this event gives us great pride and we are excited to be the prime location for Team SA’s send-off,” explains Unathi Batyashe-Fillis, ACSA’s Communications and Brand Manager at O.R. Tambo International Airport.
Team Manager for track and field sport codes and ex-Olympiad, Hezekiel Sepeng said, “The team is extremely upbeat and seeing the country supporting the team is motivating. The team will do their best and looks forward to a warm welcome upon its return.”
Following a press briefing at the ITB, O.R Tambo International Airport in conjunction with Lead SA hosted VIPS and fans at one of its viewing decks where the special SAA Olympic plane could be viewed. O.R Tambo International Airport also converted its prime parking space into a fan park for the many fans who wished to showcase their support for Team SA.
