Frankfurt am Main, Germany, 2019-Sep-25 — /Travel PR News/ — The reopening of a myth with a fascinating history: celebrities from politics, business and society were present when the “Gästehaus Petersberg” near Bonn reopened its doors on Monday. In his address to 600 invited guests, Heiko Maas, Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs, underlined the historical significance of the location: “Over the past three decades, hundreds of heads of state have visited the Petersberg: Bill Clinton, Nelson Mandela, the Dalai Lama or my Russian colleague Sergei Lavrov, whom I met here just a few weeks ago. Because there is room here for good talks. The name ‘Petersberg’ stands for a German diplomacy that does not duck away from international responsibility. So it’s no wonder that Petersberg has become an eponym time and again – and that it is the setting of the yearly Petersberg Climate Dialogue, a future-oriented topic that moves people in Germany and Europe like no other. Now a new chapter in the history of this place is opening. We would like to thank everyone who made this possible and fought for it. It’s been worthwhile.”
In his speech, Dr. Christoph Krupp, Spokesman of the Management Board at the Institute for Federal Real Estate (BImA) – Bundesanstalt für Immobilienaufgaben (BImA), also emphasised the historical relevance of the Petersberg: “This magnificent ensemble of buildings ‘breathes’ history. BImA, the building contractor, began planning the extensive renovation in 2013. The objective was to preserve the Guesthouse Petersberg with all its charm, historical significance and structural beauty, and to make it fit for the future. The result is something to be truly proud of.”
“Just as Petersberg belongs to the history of the Federal Republic of Germany, it also belongs to the history of Steigenberger Hotels & Resorts. We are delighted to have been able to include Petersberg in our hotel portfolio for almost 30 years,” said Thomas Willms, CEO, Deutsche Hospitality, on Monday evening.
In the presence of Eva Luise Köhler a raffle to the benefit of the Eva Luise und Horst Köhler Stiftung für Menschen mit Seltenen Erkrankungen (a foundation for people with rare diseases) took place during the ceremony. A total of 10,000 euros were collected for the foundation’s work.
Built by 4711 perfume manufacturer Ferdinand Mülhens, the hotel has been part of Steigenberger Hotels & Resorts since 1990 and is considered one of the flagships of the renowned group. The owner of the Petersberg Guesthouse is BImA, which coordinated and paid for the reconstruction work. The hotel is operated by Gästehaus Petersberg GmbH, with BImA being the sole shareholder.
