Stagecoach appoints Matt Kitchin as new Managing Director for its bus services in Yorkshire

Matt Kitchin to replace Phil Medlicott, who is retiring in February

Perth, Scotland, 2022-Jan-28 — /Travel PR News/ — Following the announcement that Phil Medlicott, Managing Director, is to retire next month, Stagecoach has announced the appointment of a new Managing Director for its bus services in Yorkshire.

Matt Kitchin, 42, will be joining on 1 March from Stagecoach Manchester, where he is currently Operations Director. Matt joined Stagecoach in 2016 and during the last six years has been responsible for the delivery of an extensive urban bus network throughout Greater Manchester. Prior to joining Stagecoach, he worked in both commercial and operational roles with other transport operators.

Matt will be responsible for over 1,100 employees and around 400 buses across Barnsley, Rotherham, Doncaster, Chesterfield and Sheffield.

Carla Stockton-Jones, Stagecoach UK Managing Director, said: “We’re really pleased to be announcing the appointment of Matt as our new Managing Director in Yorkshire.

“Our people are key to what we do, and it’s great to see Matt develop and progress to such a crucial role within our business. Through his experience of our bus services in Greater Manchester, Matt has developed in-depth knowledge of running a busy urban bus network, and this will stand him in great stead for leading our business in Yorkshire.

“As we come out of the pandemic, there will be some great opportunities to work closely with our partners to harness the huge potential of the bus in tackling climate change, delivering better air quality and providing improved mobility for our communities. Matt’s experience in the bus industry will ensure we are in the very best position to maximise the opportunities ahead.

“I’d also like to pay tribute to Phil for his many years of service in Stagecoach right across the country. We wish him all the best for a relaxing and happy retirement.”

Matt Kitchin added: “Our transport services play a critical role in connecting Yorkshire and there will be some major opportunities ahead as we look to rebuild from the pandemic.

“I look forward to working with my team and our partners and stakeholders across the region to make sure we are delivering the very best bus services for our customers.”
