Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows offering youth spring training camps, set alongside some of the world’s best skiers and riders
Olympic Valley, Calif., 2017-Apr-19 — /Travel PR News/ — With more than 57 feet of cumulative snowfall to date, Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows is primed to once again host Tahoe’s longest season, with spring operations lasting into June and on July 4, weather and conditions permitting. In addition to great spring skiing and riding, Squaw Valley will offer a number of youth training camps for the next generation of skiers and riders to hone their skills. Not only will youth have an excellent surface to train on, but they will be coached by world class coaches in a multitude of disciplines.
Spring camps kick off with the World Cup School of Speed, hosted by current and former World Cup athletes including Marco Sullivan, Travis Ganong and Anna Goodman. This three day camp will be held April 28-30 and June 2-4, and gives young athletes ages 9-19 the chance to learn from the pros. Following the first World Cup School of Speed Camp, Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows will host Technical Camps (Slalom and Giant Slalom) for U10, U12 and U14 athletes May 12-14 (GS), May 19-12 (SL) and May 26-28 (SL), and for U16 and FIS athletes May 17-21 (GS), May 24-28 (SL) and May 31-June 4 (SL). For big mountain athletes, the Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows Big Mountain Team will host camps May 12-14 and May 26-28.
After the season ends, Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows team coaches will host camps in Mt. Hood, OR, June 25-July 2 and July 9-16 for equipment testing and technical discipline training, and in New Zealand at Ohau, Round Hill and Mt. Hutt, July 23-August 16, where athletes will train alongside the US Ski Team.
In addition to the comprehensive offering for youth across the country, Squaw Valley will host a number of professional athletes this spring as they visit the resort for individual training opportunities. Alpine ski racing athletes including Women’s FIS World Cup Overall and Slalom Champion, Mikaela Shiffrin, up-and-coming U.S. athletes Nina O’Brien and Patricia Mangan, and World Cup mainstay, Resi Stiegler, will return to the Red Dog run, the course of the 2017 Audi FIS World Cup, as well as other slopes at Squaw Valley for individually tailored training. Numerous industry brands including The North Face, Smith Optics, K2 Skis and more, will also be using Squaw Valley as the location for spring photo and video shoots with some of the sports top athletes.
For the next generation of young ski and ride athletes, the opportunity to train on world class terrain and watch some of the world’s top athletes is an unparalleled chance for lasting inspiration.
