Miramar, Florida, 2013-04-24 — /travelprnews.com/ — In February, as one of Spirit Airlines’ many efforts of giving back to the local communities it serves, the airline launched its online Spirit Destination Give program in Houston. Spirit teamed up with a variety of organizations in the Houston area to generate awareness and support for five worthy causes, including AIDS Foundation Houston, Alzheimer’s Association, Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Houston, JDRF, and Susan G. Komen for the Cure Houston. Spirit vowed to give a $10,000 donation to the organization who received the most votes. As soon as voting opened, the votes started rolling in.

Today, Spirit officially announced the winner and presented the $10,000 donation to JDRF’s Houston Gulf Coast Chapter Executive Director Molly Naylor.

“We hope this donation will assist JDRF in their continued commitment in research to cure, better treat and prevent type 1 diabetes,” said Michael Pewther, who oversees Spirit’s corporate giving efforts. “We are proud to help generate awareness and support for all of the Houston organizations who participated in our Destination Give program. We thank all who voted and we encourage everyone to continue doing what you can to support your cause of choice.”

“We were thrilled to find out that we had won the Spirit Airlines Competition,” said JDRF’s Houston Gulf Coast Chapter Executive Director Ms. Naylor. “Spirit’s contribution to JDRF research will move forward our efforts to improve the lives of all children and adults living with type 1 diabetes as we pursue a cure for the disease. With the incidence of type 1 diabetes increasing at 3-5% a year, finding improved treatments and a cure is more critical than ever.”
