Southern Californians explore Alberta at Nokia Plaza in Downtown Los Angeles

Los Angeles, 2012-11-07 — /travelprnews.com/ — On Sunday, November 4, thousands of Southern Californians on their way to the Los Angeles Lakers game or to a concert by country artist Eric Church, gathered at Nokia Plaza in downtown Los Angeles for a free all-ages event featuring a wide array of outdoor experiences available in Alberta, Canada.

The experiential event kicked off Travel Alberta’s partnership with AEG and the Los Angeles Kings promoting travel to the province of Alberta. Joining Travel Alberta at the event was the LA Kings mascot and ‘Ice Crew’ who interacted with visitors and gave away a hockey stick signed by the LA Kings team via Twitter on behalf of Travel Alberta.

Day-long activities included a blast of Alberta winter where guests stepped inside a snowblast booth. Visitors also had the opportunity to ride a snowboard on a ski simulator transporting them to the snowy Canadian Rocky Mountains.

Participants also experienced Alberta’s Northern Lights – aurora borealis – via a green screen; touched a life-size ice sculpture of sled dogs; climbed a rock wall and hit golf balls via a Rocky Mountain golf simulator. Colorful street performers roamed the venue recognizing Alberta’s capital city of Edmonton as the province’s festival city.

As well, to celebrate Alberta’s Calgary Stampede, visitors could ride a mechanical bull or see a chalk artist draw life-like 3 dimensional pictures of this world-famous annual rodeo, exhibition and festival.

Nokia Plaza was a perfect venue to demonstrate how remarkable a trip to the Western Canadian province of Alberta can be, regardless of the time of year. With direct flights daily from Los Angeles to Calgary,  Southern Californians can get to Alberta in just about three hours by plane regardless of the season.
