South Korea’s Asiana Airlines and Austrian Airlines sign first codeshare agreement

  • Flights to Seoul are immediately bookable at austrian.com
  • The South Korean capital can be reached via Bangkok or Tokyo

VIENNA, Austria, 2016-Feb-04 — /Travel PR News/ — Asiana Airlines of South Korea and Austrian Airlines signed their first codeshare agreement. In line with the stipulations of the agreement, flights to the South Korean capital city of Seoul via Tokyo or Bangkok are immediately bookable at Austrian Airlines. This agreement is the first of its kind with Asiana Airlines, and is thus of particular importance to Austrian Airlines.

“We worked for about one year to put together a corresponding contractual agreement”, says Christian Steyer, responsible Director of Cooperations at Austrian Airlines. “However, the long waiting time has paid off. We have attracted a new partner in the Asian region, and in cooperation with Asiana Airlines we can offer new and interesting destinations to our customers.”

The codeshare agreement covers the following routes:

Asiana Airlines feeder flights:                      Austrian Airlines feeder flights:
Bangkok – Seoul – Bangkok                        Vienna – Frankfurt – Vienna
Tokyo (NRT) – Seoul – Tokyo                      Vienna – London (LHR) – Vienna
Vienna – Rome – Vienna

Codesharing:
Codesharing is a process in which two airlines share a scheduled flight. Each of the participating airlines publishes and markets the flight using its own airline designator and flight number i.e. the code. It enables flights which one airline does not operate itself to be offered in its own sales system. The benefit for passengers is that they can book and pay for flights with the airline they are used to, using their native language and currency.
