SITA AirportHub™ to boost connectivity at Port Moresby Jackson’s International Airport

SINGAPORE, 2018-Feb-09 — /Travel PR News/ — Papua New Guinea’s National Airport Corporation has selected SITA AirportHub™ to boost connectivity at Port Moresby Jackson’s International Airport. SITA AirportHub is an airport-wide shared connectivity platform that enables Port Moresby airport to provide airlines, ground handlers and other tenants with secure and reliable bandwidth, including wireless connectivity to access off-airport applications. The system is currently operational at more than 440 airports and provides 7,000 customer connections around the world.

SITA AirportHub at Port Moresby Airport is connected by dual international private circuits to Australia, ensuring secure international connectivity into SITA’s global network. This resilient, shared infrastructure solution enhances communications at the airport by greatly minimizing the likelihood of network isolation. Port Moresby Airport can now easily connect all of its applications and IT systems, with SITA AirportHub removing the complexity of dealing with local telecom providers and adding flexibility to route management.

Richard Yopo, Managing Director and CEO, National Airport Corporation, said: “With a view to delivering greater connectivity to every user of Port Moresby Jackson’s International Airport, National Airport Corporation is proud to become the world’s latest operator of SITA’s AirportHub IT system. This represents another significant step in the process of upgrading the airport’s capabilities and helping to attract more international and domestic services to Papua New Guinea’s major airport hub.”

Sumesh Patel, SITA President, Asia Pacific, said: “SITA’s investment in AirportHub infrastructure over the past few years has been of huge benefit to the entire air transport community. It makes opening new routes at airports much quicker and easier for airlines. When they are connecting their systems at an airport they can now do so within a matter of weeks not months. This streamlined approach is efficient and cost-effective. We are delighted to welcome Port Moresby Jackson’s International Airport as the latest user in the Asia-Pacific region.”

Airports are the center of the air transport industry’s communications and are becoming ever more connected. By 2030, 18,000 airline communication connections will be needed at the world’s airports.  The challenge the industry faces is to have reliable, secure, high performance communications – consistently across the world’s airports – for airlines, ground handlers, maintenance companies, other airport tenants and the airports themselves. SITA AirportHub enables this at airports around the world ranging from remote and regional destinations serving less than a million passengers to the largest international hubs of the world, which together manage hundreds of millions of passengers every year.
