MOSCOW, Russia, 2019-Jul-29 — /Travel PR News/ — Sheremetyevo International Airport held the IX ceremony of granting awards for the mass media and social media professionals – ShereMedia. The festive event was attended by the management of the airport and its subsidiaries, representatives of leading socio-political, business, aviation and tourism publications, industry experts, top bloggers and partners of the airport.
This year, two important events in the modern history of the Russian largest air harbor were the leitmotifs of the ceremony: the 60th anniversary of the airport and the appellation of A.S. Pushkin name to the airport. The event called “Duel of Epochs. Weapon – pen” was opened by video chronicles collected on the basis of television reports, aired from 1959 to 2019. At the beginning of the ceremony, lines from the famous “Prophet” poem were read on the stage.
While opening the ceremony, Andrei Nikulin, First Deputy General Director for Production of JSC SIA, noted: “The ShereMedia Award is a significant event in the lives of journalists who specialize in topics directly related to the transport industry. Evidence of this – those who are here today: the best representatives of industry journalism and a jury of recognized experts.
For Sheremetyevo, the award is a great opportunity to see yourself as if in a mirror, to receive the most valuable feedback, sometimes even the sharp criticism necessary for the development of the airport that aspires to be the best in everything. And the fact that our airport for many years is among the leaders of many authoritative ratings in Europe and around the world, there is a huge merit of yours.”
ShereMedia is a unique award that has no analogue in the air transport industry. The winners are journalists who have left a noticeable mark in the information space, as well as the media, which have established themselves as authoritative sources in the air transport industry. The winners are traditionally determined by an expert council composed of authoritative and experienced professionals in the field of aviation, mass communications and art.

For the first time, the sponsors of the ShereMedia Award were Russian and foreign airlines operating flights from Sheremetyevo. The winners were awarded open-air tickets to popular domestic and international destinations. In addition, as prizes, the laureates received commemorative figurines, diplomas and cards entitling them to free annual maintenance in the business halls of the airport.

Sheremetyevo International Airport is a top 10 hub airport in Europe and the largest airport in Russia by passenger and cargo traffic, the number of takeoff and landing operations, the total area of terminals, and cargo facility capacity. The Sheremetyevo route network includes over 220 destinations. In 2018, Sheremetyevo Airport served 45,836 million passengers, a 14.3% increase compared to 2017.
2018 saw Sheremetyevo top the ASQ ACI program’s ranking for customer service among the largest airports in Europe, whose passenger traffic exceeded 40 million passengers per year and enter the list of the world’s best airports according to ACI Director General’s Roll of Excellence.
