Shannon Airport won ‘Highly Commended’ award for Airports under 4m passengers at the Routes Europe Airport Marketing Awards

Shannon, Ireland, 2014-04-9 — /Travel PR News/ — Shannon Airport’s route promotion endeavours have won international recognition again as it claimed the ‘Highly Commended’ award for Airports under 4m passengers at the Routes Europe Airport Marketing Awards in Marseille.

The only Irish airport shortlisted for what are the most prestigious awards in the aviation industry in Europe, Shannon received the recognition for its exploits in marketing the airport over the past 12 months.

The City of Airport Bremen was the outright winner of the awards, with Shannon ‘Highly Commended’ in its category ahead of John Paul II International Airport, Kraków-Balice,  Poland; George Enescu International Airport, Bacau, Romania; Begishevo Airport, Russia; and David the Builder Kutaisi International Airport, Georgia.

The awards provide the airline community with the chance to have their say as to which airport or destination they think provides the best overall marketing activities to them.

The Awards took place at Routes Europe Networking Evening in Marseille, France and were hosted by Marseille Provence Airport.

Shannon also achieved global marketing recognition last October when it was Highly Commended in the Airport Under 4million passenger category at the World Routes Awards in Las Vegas.

Said Shannon Airport Chief Commercial Officer Andrew Murphy, “To be highly commended in both the World and European route marketing awards is huge recognition for the efforts that the independent Shannon Airport has been making to promote itself over the past sixteen months or so.

“We were in the category with the outright winner so that shows how stiff the competition was and to take the Highly Commended award is a huge achievement. There has been a lot of progress at Shannon over the past year and this latest award is prestigious recognition of the strides being made to promote Shannon with airlines. To be the only Irish Airport selected also speaks volumes about the energy and momentum being built up at Shannon.”
