2013-01-22 — /travelprnews.com/ — Shannon Airport Authority (SAA) has gone electric for its latest fleet purchase.
The airport recently purchased an electric Renault Kangoo mini-van for use by its airport engineering team.
Shannon’s decision to opt for electric vehicles will result in CO2 savings of more than 20,000kg over the lifetime of the vehicles, which is equivalent to planting more than 650 trees.
The new electric vehicle will be used on a daily basis in both airside and landside locations by SAA engineering crews.
Not only are these vehicles good for the environment, they are also ideal to meet the varied needs of an airport operation according to Paul Hennessy the airports Safety Compliance and Environment Manager.
The vehicles were purchased through Merrion Fleet Management with the assistance of the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI).
