Shannon Airport announced 10% increase in The August Bank Holiday passengers over the same period last year

2013-08-05— /travelprnews.com/ — The Chief Executive of Shannon Airport, Neil Pakey, has today stated that the 10% increase in Bank Holiday passengers through the airport this weekend, over the same period last year is further evidence of the recovery in the tourism market here and abroad.

“The August Bank Holiday weekend is one of the busiest of the year at all airports and Shannon has been buzzing over recent days.  We will have 35,000 passengers through the airport this weekend, which is an increase of 10% on the same weekend last year.  This follows the overall 8%increase in passenger numbers at Shannon in June, the first time a month-over-month increase was recorded at the airport in five years.

“Perhaps the most striking increase is in the number of passengers on US routes, which was up 38% in June alone thanks to a number of new transatlantic services at Shannon, taking the number of US destination we serve this year to five.  You have to go back to 2009 since Shannon last had five US routes.

“The great thing about the American market coming back strong is that the US tourist is the biggest spending of all so this weekend should further boost what has already been a much improved summer season for tourism on the west coast and for Shannon Airport.”
