Relocation will activate new nine-gate section of Boarding Area B

SAN FRANCISCO, CA, 2020-May-06 — /Travel PR News/ — The San Francisco International Airport (SFO) announced that American Airlines will move into Harvey Milk Terminal 1 effective Tuesday, May 12, 2020. This move was originally planned to occur in late March but was postponed due to the COVID-19 crisis. The Airport has remained open for essential travel, and the Harvey Milk Terminal 1 project has been deemed essential construction activity in accordance with the San Francisco Department of Public Health Order.

On May 12th, American Airlines will move all operations from Terminal 2 into Harvey Milk Terminal 1, to include the following:

  • New ticket counter space in Harvey Milk Terminal 1, adjacent to Southwest and JetBlue
  • New state-of-the-art baggage system and baggage claim area shared with Southwest and JetBlue
  • Activation of a new nine-gate section of Boarding Area B, six of these gates dedicated to American Airlines

American Airlines has also completed construction of a new Admirals Club lounge but will postpone the opening of this facility due to COVID-19.

This move continues the second phase of the Harvey Milk Terminal 1 project, which consists of new exterior terminal signage, the new South Check-In Lobby and Baggage Claim, a new SFO Museum exhibit on Harvey Milk, and a new Kids Spot play area on Boarding Area B. This phase also features new public art installations, found in both pre- and post-security locations.
