SAN FRANCISCO — 2012-11-07 — /travelprnews.com/ — San Francisco International Airport (SFO) has been honored with the 2012 “Airports Going Green” Award for their Employee Wellness Program. At an event hosted by the Chicago Department of Aviation, SFO was recognized for its comprehensive focus on employee health.
“We are honored to be recognized by Airports Going Green for our Employee Wellness program,” said Airport Director John L. Martin. “Our efforts demonstrate our commitment to be an environmentally sustainable airport, as well as our goal to make SFO a great place for employees to work.”
SFO has been actively promoting employee wellness for several years, through elements including fitness, preventative health care, nutrition, and education. In 2011, SFO took additional steps to appoint a Wellness Coordinator and form a Wellness Advisory Council to facilitate employee feedback.
In the spring of 2012, SFO sponsored its annual “Shape Up San Francisco” Walking Challenge, in which over 600 airport employee volunteers walked a total of 1,016 miles over 10 weeks, or the equivalent of the California coastline.
