2012-08-15 — /travelprnews.com/ — Ryanair, Europe’s only ultra-low cost airline, today (15 Aug) said it will not allow its flights or passengers to be blackmailed by Portway handling workers who have announced their intention to take industrial action at Faro and Porto airports (on 15, 17 and 31 Aug) and called on INAC to take urgent action to prevent the strikes and unnecessary delays to passengers.
Ryanair will operate a full schedule of flights to/from Faro and Porto airports during the planned periods of disruption even if this blackmail action is taken by Portway members and is advising passengers travelling with checked luggage to arrive at the airport at least 2 hours prior to departure to allow sufficient time to clear bag drop and passport/border control. Boarding for all Ryanair flights commences strictly 30 minutes prior to departure and flights will not be delayed for passengers arriving late to the boarding gate.
Ryanair’s Stephen McNamara said:
“Ryanair will not allow these Portway workers to blackmail or disrupt our passengers and we are calling on INAC to take urgent action to prevent strike action by airport workers on Wed 15th and Fri 17th next and on Fri 31st and prevent delays to passengers. It is irresponsible of these workers to hold passengers to ransom and we are advising passengers to arrive at the airport at least 2 hours prior to departure in case this threatened industrial action goes ahead.”
