2012-11-09 — /travelprnews.com/ — Ryanair, Europe’s only ultra-low cost airline, today (8 Nov) welcomed the Commercial Court of Madrid’s ruling in favour of Ryanair’s online check-in and boarding card policy, which the Court said expedited the boarding process and saved passengers time. A Spanish passenger had claimed they were unable to check-in online as their credit card was no longer valid and incurred a boarding card reissue fee after failing to print their boarding card
Ryanair demonstrated that the passenger had a number of other options to perform an online check-in – including via their email address, reservation number or credit card number – and the Court agreed, ruling the passenger in question could have used the other methods available to check-in online.
The Court found that Ryanair passengers are adequately informed of the requirements for online check-in (and the penalty which will be issued if boarding cards are not pre-printed) through Ryanair’s general conditions of carriage and by email in advance of travel.
Ryanair welcomed the decision and reminded passengers to continue to check-in online and pre-print their boarding cards, as 99.98% of its passengers currently do. This latest judgement echoes a similar ruling at the Court of Appeal in Barcelona, which the Madrid Court referred to.
Ryanair’s Stephen McNamara said:
“We warmly welcome the latest Spanish Court ruling in Madrid which supports Ryanair’s online check-in and boarding card policy – a system the Court found saved both time and money for passengers.
“Passengers can check-in online and pre-print their boarding cards using their email address, reservation number or credit card number – a method 99.98% of our passengers use on a daily basis, avoiding unnecessary boarding card reissue fees.”
