Port Authority of New York and New Jersey launched limited edition Super Bowl PATH SmartLink cards

New York City, NY, US, 2014-1-8 — /travelprnews.com/ — To commemorate Super Bowl XLVIII – dubbed the first “Mass Transit Super Bowl’’ – the Port Authority today announced the launch of limited edition Super Bowl PATH SmartLink cards. Only 70,000 of the commemorative cards are available for purchase beginning today. The limited edition SmartLink Cards are made of durable plastic the size of a credit card and work just like regular SmartLink Cards. They can be loaded with several prepaid trip options as well as daily, weekly and 30-day passes.

Customers have multiple purchasing options – online, from blue SmartLink vending machines in most PATH stations and at several Hudson News locations. The special edition cards – which can be kept as a souvenir of Super Bowl XLVIII – can be re-loaded with additional trips online or at the PATH ticket vending machines.

“For more than 50 years, PATH has been the primary transit link between Manhattan, neighboring New Jersey urban communities and suburban commuter railroads,” said Port Authority Executive Director Pat Foye. “With the arrival of this year’s Super Bowl, we are prepared and look forward to providing the same safe and reliable service to our visitors and our regular customers.”

“Our facilities are the gateway to the game, and we are ready to welcome visitors from all over the world to our region,” said Port Authority Deputy Executive Director Deborah Gramiccioni. “PATH is a convenient, reliable way to travel between all the events of Super Bowl week, and these commemorative SmartLink cards are a great way to remember the experience.”

This year’s Super Bowl is the first in which two U.S. states, New York and New Jersey, will share host duties. Fittingly, the commemorative PATH SmartLink card features the Port Authority’s iconic George Washington Bridge – which stands high above the Hudson River with its eastern end resting on the shores of Manhattan and its western end embedded in the wooded bluffs of New Jersey’s Palisades. The bridge is also at the center of the NY/NJ Super Bowl Host Committee logo.

The Limited Edition SmartLink cards are available from blue dispensers at the Newark, Journal Square, Newport, Exchange Place, Hoboken, 33rd Street and the World Trade Center stations, as well as select Hudson News locations.

PATH is a safe and convenient way to travel to and from several Super Bowl-related activities, including Super Bowl Boulevard, which stretches from 34th to 47th streets on Broadway. The PATH train will take riders to the 33rd Street station, just one block away from the activities.

The SmartLink cards, first introduced in 2007, allow customers to replenish their cards at ticket machines, online with a credit card or to have the cards replenished automatically. The cards have proven popular because they do not require a swipe through the turnstiles since they have embedded chips and do not expire.
