PILOT PROJECT AT YYC COULD LEAD TO FASTER SECURITY SCREENING

CALGARY, 2012-07-23 — /travelprnews.com/ — The Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) today announced a pilot project that allows some passengers to leave their laptops in their carry-on bag during the screening process.

The pilot started June 19 at the Trusted Traveller CATSA/Nexus Security Line at the Calgary International Airport (Concourse “A”).

“CATSA is always looking at ways to improve the passenger experience while maintaining the highest level of security,” said Yves Duguay, CATSA’s Senior Vice-President, Operations and Customer Experience. “This pilot project could lead to shorter wait times and enhanced convenience for air travellers.”

Preparation in advance of screening promotes lower wait time, faster screening and increased passenger satisfaction. Allowing passengers to leave their laptops in carry-on bags has the potential to achieve improvements in all of these areas.

CATSA, established in 2002, is a Crown corporation responsible for:

  • Pre-board screening – the screening of passengers, their carry-on baggage and their personal belongings;
  • Hold-baggage screening – the screening of checked baggage;
  • Non-passenger screening – the screening of non-passengers on a random basis; and
  • Restricted Area Identity Card – the administration of access control to airport restricted areas through biometric identifiers.
