Palm Springs, CA, 2018-Jul-26 — /Travel PR News/ — It’s official! Palm Springs residents and visitors will soon have the opportunity to once again catch the BUZZ!
On Wednesday night, the Council approved SunLine Transit Agency’s proposal to revive the popular trolley system, which ended June 30 in Palm Springs. The Council voted to approve a proposal that would operate the trolley system year-round, Thursday through Saturday from noon to 10 pm. The program is anticipated to begin this November and run through June 30, 2020 when the Council will review whether or not to continue the City’s subsidy. Beyond 2020, SunLine will ultimately decide whether to continue the service. In addition, the Council will review program operations with SunLine at the end of the 2019 fiscal year.
Council member Lisa Middleton, who also sits on SunLine’s Board of Directors as the City’s representative, worked with the agency to bring forward the proposal. “The City Council recognized that the BUZZ Trolley has been an incredibly popular service appreciated by both residents and visitors and wanted a less expensive option to keep it rolling,” said Middleton. “We are delighted that SunLine has stepped up to assume operation of this program and we look forward to partnering with them.”
As part of the proposal, the agency will take over the management of the system, capital costs and purchase the trolleys. The fun and colorful branding will remain the same.
“SunLine is pleased to partner with the City of Palm Springs to continue this service for residents and tourists. Providing transportation options also enhances the local economy, creating more convenient access to local businesses,” said Lauren Skiver, CEO/General Manager of SunLine Transit Agency. “The BUZZ trolleys offer a fun and innovative way to get around Palm Springs. We look forward to bringing the service back to the community and welcoming new riders to the SunLine Transit
network.”
“The BUZZ trolley has become a much loved, fast and fun amenity which residents and visitors enjoy using to get around town,” said Mary Jo Ginther, director of the Palm Springs Bureau of Tourism. “Why drive when you can take the BUZZ? It truly is a part of the magic that makes Palm Springs like no place else.”
