Norwegian carried 2,103,477 passengers in May; 12% increase compared to the same month last year

Fornebu, Norway, 2014-6-11 — /Travel PR News/ — Norwegian carried more than 2.1 million passengers in May 2014, an increase of 12 percent compared to the same month last year. The load factor was 77 percent. The strike threats from labor union Parat affected the company’s revenues this month, as many customers in Norway and Denmark refrained from booking flights due to fear of strike.

Norwegian carried 2,103,477 passengers in May, an increase of 12 percent compared to the same month last year. The total passenger traffic (RPK) increased by 45 percent, while the capacity (ASK) increased by 45 percent this month. The load factor was 77 percent in May, the same as May last year.

“May was an atypical month where the strike threats from the labor union Parat affected our company considerably through fewer bookings and consequently lower revenues. On the positive side, I’m pleased that we keep attracting new customers, particularly in new markets outside Scandinavia. Norwegian’s on-time performance is almost 90 percent, making us one of most punctual airlines in Europe,” said Norwegian’s CEO Bjørn Kjos.

In May, Norwegian took delivery of a brand new Boeing 737-800, as well as a new 787 Dreamliner. Norwegian will take delivery of 14 Boeing 737-800 aircraft and four 787 Dreamliners during 2014. Norwegian boasts one of the most modern and environmentally friendly fleets in Europe.

Norwegian operated 98.8 percent of its scheduled flights in May, whereof 90 percent departed on time.
