The new base, representing an investment of approximately $400 million, will support a significant increase in capacity for the Summer 2026 schedule. Ryanair plans to operate 44 routes from Tirana, including 21 new destinations such as Alghero, Dublin, Eindhoven, Genoa, Malta, Milan and Naples. The expansion is expected to drive passenger traffic to around 4 million annually, representing growth of more than 50%.

This development has been supported by Albania’s pro-growth aviation policies, including a zero-tax framework, as well as incentive programmes implemented by Tirana International Airport. The expanded operations are also expected to generate over 3,000 jobs across the country, including 120 direct roles for pilots, engineers and cabin crew based in Tirana.

Michael O’Leary said the launch of the base reflects Ryanair’s continued investment in Albania, highlighting the country’s rapid aviation growth and strong market potential. He added that the airline aims to further expand its presence by increasing its fleet in Tirana to up to six aircraft by 2030, with plans to serve more than 60 routes and carry over 6 million passengers annually, subject to continued supportive policies and cost conditions.

Piervittorio Farabbi, Chief Operating Officer of Tirana International Airport, noted that the partnership with Ryanair has driven improvements in operational efficiency and infrastructure, including the completion of a €120 million investment programme to expand airport capacity and enhance performance.

The new base represents a key milestone in Ryanair’s strategy to expand low-cost travel options in Albania, boosting connectivity, tourism and economic growth.
