New Phase of Budapest Airport Noise Reduction Initiative Opens Applications for 2026 Residential Upgrades

(IN SHORT) Budapest Airport has launched the sixth phase of its noise protection program, aimed at reducing aircraft noise for residents living near the airport. The initiative, which began in 2022, has already supported more than 1,400 households and made around 4,000 properties eligible for participation. With over 3 billion HUF invested to date, the program offers measures such as window and door insulation upgrades and bedroom ventilator installations. The latest phase expands coverage to additional districts in Budapest, with applications open until 31 July 2026. Developed in collaboration with local authorities, the program reflects Budapest Airport’s ongoing commitment to improving community well-being alongside operational growth.

(PRESS RELEASE) BUDAPEST, Hungary, 2026-Apr-2 — /Travel PR News/ — Budapest Airport, together with the For the Neighbors of Budapest Airport Foundation, has launched the sixth phase of its large-scale noise protection program, continuing efforts to reduce the impact of aircraft noise on nearby communities. The initiative, which began in 2022, represents the most extensive program of its kind in the airport’s history.

The latest phase expands the program’s coverage to additional residential areas in Budapest’s District X and XVIII, offering more property owners the opportunity to participate. Applications for this phase are now open and will be accepted until 31 July 2026, after which installation work will begin.

The program allows eligible homeowners in designated areas to apply for noise-reduction measures within their properties. These include the retrofitting or replacement of windows and doors in living spaces, as well as the installation of ventilators in bedrooms, helping to improve indoor comfort while reducing exposure to external noise.

Since its introduction, the initiative has been implemented in multiple phases, reaching a growing number of households each year. To date, more than 1,400 properties have already benefited from the program, while approximately 4,000 properties have been eligible to participate over the past four years. Budapest Airport has allocated more than 3 billion HUF to support these efforts, reflecting a long-term commitment to enhancing the quality of life for residents in surrounding areas.

The program has been developed in close coordination with local authorities, including mayors of the affected districts and neighbouring settlements, ensuring that the measures address the specific needs of local communities. In mid-April, residents included in the current phase will receive detailed information about the application process and program requirements.

Beyond the noise protection initiative, Budapest Airport continues to implement additional measures to mitigate environmental impact. These include operating a public noise monitoring system and introducing higher charges for airlines operating during late-night hours, further supporting efforts to reduce disturbances during critical rest periods.

As part of the VINCI Airports network, Budapest Airport emphasizes its commitment to balancing airport development with community well-being, working closely with local stakeholders to ensure sustainable growth alongside improved living conditions for nearby residents.
