New community outreach office in Newark opens to support the $2.7-billion Terminal One Redevelopment Program at Newark Liberty International Airport

Office to serve as central resource for job and contracting opportunities for local residents and businesses

New York City, New York, United States, 2019-Apr-17 — /Travel PR News/ — As part of its commitment to engage local communities during the ongoing redevelopment and modernization of its facilities throughout the region, the Port Authority today (Apr 15, 2019) opened a new community outreach office in Newark to support the $2.7-billion Terminal One Redevelopment Program at Newark Liberty International Airport.

The Newark Community Outreach Office is designed to serve as the central resource for job and contracting opportunities for local residents and businesses interested in the Terminal One project. It will focus on communication and building stronger community engagement, and assist in the recruitment of certified Minority and Women-owned Business Enterprises (MWBE). Outreach staff also will provide certification workshops and job fairs.

“New Jersey’s greatest assets are its people and its workforce,” said Governor Phil Murphy. “The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s efforts to engage this workforce, particularly the minority and women-led small businesses and contractors of our state, will pay great dividends to the Terminal One project. I applaud the Port Authority’s forward-thinking outreach efforts as it continues to modernize and redevelop our region’s aviation infrastructure.”

The Newark facility is part of a network of community outreach offices that will support ongoing and future major agency redevelopment projects. In addition to Terminal One, community offices supporting the Port Authority’s John F. Kennedy and LaGuardia Airport redevelopment projects are either open or in the works. An outreach center inside the Port Authority Bus Terminal supporting the replacement of the existing Bus Terminal also opened recently.

“Terminal One is the largest design-build project the Port Authority has ever built in New Jersey, and it’s imperative that we have the community and local businesses deeply involved,” said Port Authority Executive Director Rick Cotton. “We are committed to a process that includes minority and women-owned businesses as subcontractors, vendors and consultants, and to tapping a pool of local talent to keep Terminal One running efficiently and creating a world-class experience for our passengers.”

The Newark outreach office is located on the fourth floor of 89 Market Street in Newark. Its hours of operation are Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m., and open until 7 p.m. on Tuesdays. Terminal One, which is replacing the outmoded Terminal A, will feature cutting-edge digital technology, superior dining and retail options in approximately one million square feet of space able to accommodate 13.6 million passengers on three levels. The new terminal will have 33 common-use gates to handle larger aircraft and modernized check-in, security and baggage claim areas.

Overall, the Terminal One project is expected to generate more than $4.6 billion in regional economic activity, create more than 23,000 job years and provide more than $1.9 billion in wages. Terminal One is scheduled to be fully operational by 2022.
