Hershey, Pa., 2012-09-06 — /travelprnews.com/ — The Hershey Story, The Museum on Chocolate Avenue will open its newest special exhibit, Beauty All Around: American Indian Art, on Friday, September 21. The display, which will feature artifacts from the original American Indian Museum established by Milton S. Hershey in 1933, will be on exhibit through November 25.
The exhibit will showcase objects from five regions, each a reflection of its artistic excellence. Visitors will see stone carvings and woven cornhusks from the Eastern Woodlands Indians; quill and beadwork from the Great Plains Indians; pottery and jewelry displayed in the Southwest section; and bark and wood carvings showcased in the Northwest Coast region. The exhibit also features richly decorated baskets from renowned weavers of the California Pomo tribe, including some smaller than a dime.
In 1938, the American Indian Museum became part of the then-new Hershey Museum. The museum also included a large collection of Pennsylvania German objects purchased by Mr. Hershey. Hershey Museum transformed into The Hershey Story, The Museum on Chocolate Avenue in 2009.
Admission to this exhibit is included with admission to the Museum Experience. For a complete calendar of events, hours and ticketing information, visit www.HersheyStory.org.
