Nebraska, Applications being accepted for 2013 Passport program

Apply to participate in 2013 Nebraska Passport program

LINCOLN, NEB., 2012-11-08 — /travelprnews.com/ — Applications are now being accepted for the 2013 Passport Program. For those unfamiliar with the program, travelers are encouraged to visit attractions across the state, collect stamps at participating stops and earn prizes.

Last year, 80 stops were broken into 10 special-interest tours including: golf courses, wineries, festivals, culture, water recreation, parks, unique accommodations, family fun, GROW Nebraska and culinary.

The number of stops for 2013 and the tour categories will be determined after the applications are received.

To be considered as a featured destination in the 2013 Nebraska Passport Program, please complete the application, which you can also find here: http://industry.visitnebraska.org/pdfs/2013PassportApplication.pdf,  and email it to Shannon Peterson at shannon.j.peterson@nebraska.gov  by 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30.

Before applying, please consider that if selected your attraction/business must:

• Provide staff to participate in mandatory program training via conference call.
• Be open regular and reasonable hours, including at least one weekend day and possible evening hours.
• Be staffed by a friendly person who will stamp passports during listed business hours and share information about things to do in your area.
• Positively promote the program by displaying materials, such as posters and passports.
• Pay a $100 participation fee if selected as a featured attraction.
• Abide by Nebraska state law that prohibits charging participants for stamps.

Being featured in the Nebraska Passport program provides exposure to potential new visitors. In a follow-up survey, 98 percent of 2012 participants said they visited at least one Nebraska attraction they wouldn’t have otherwise visited because it was a Passport stop. In addition, 79 percent of respondents said they spent at least three nights away from home while visiting Passport sites.
