NBAA completes inaugural class of its Safety Manager Certificate Program

Washington DC, USA, 2022-May-06 — /Travel PR News/ — The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) announced the completion of the inaugural class of its Safety Manager Certificate Program, and has opened registration for the second cycle of this comprehensive introductory-level training program.

Created by the NBAA Safety Committee in partnership with Advanced Aircrew Academy, Convergent Performance and Fireside Partners, the Safety Manager Certificate Program is an assessment-based certificate program that provides training in six critical areas of business aviation safety management: leadership, safety policy, safety risk management, safety assurance, safety promotion and emergency response.

NBAA completed the first cycle of the program on March 31 and issued 212 Safety Manager Certificates, representing a 97% course completion rate.

“With the knowledge attained from this program, flight department personnel who have been assigned safety management responsibilities will be prepared to effectively manage an organization’s safety management efforts, including its safety management system (SMS),” said NBAA Director of Safety and Flight Operations Mark Larsen, CAM.

The business aviation community’s response to the program has been overwhelmingly supportive. “The NBAA Safety Manager Certificate Program is a highly credible first step in the education of an aviation safety manager, providing a comprehensive foundation for building a safety culture,” said Capt. Michael Atzert, president of safety consultancy SafeCoach.

Marty Rollinger, director of flight operations at a U.S. manufacturer and a member of the Safety Manager Certificate Program’s inaugural course, noted: “As a practitioner of aviation safety since attending U.S. Navy Aviation Safety School, I valued the contributions and perspectives of each of the presenters. My safety manager colleague and I used this certificate program as a measuring stick for our operation with an eye toward continuous improvement.”

Registration for the second cycle of NBAA’s Safety Manager Certificate Program is now open. The deadline for applications is June 10. Participants who complete the course and pass the final assessment are awarded four points toward their CAM application or recertification.

Founded in 1947 and based in Washington, DC, the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) is the leading organization for companies that rely on general aviation aircraft to help make their businesses more efficient, productive and successful. The association represents more than 10,000 company and professional members and provides more than 100 products and services to the business aviation community, including the NBAA Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (NBAA-BACE), the world’s largest civil aviation trade show.
