(PRESS RELEASE) MUNICH, 2025-May-29 — /Travel PR News/ — Munich Airport is celebrating a significant milestone this year, marking 15 years of continuous collaboration with three prominent Star Alliance carriers: United Airlines (formerly Continental Airlines), Singapore Airlines, and All Nippon Airways (ANA). This long-standing partnership has been instrumental in reinforcing Munich’s position as a premium hub in international aviation, offering a robust and diverse network for passengers and freight alike.
The journey began in March 2010 when Continental Airlines, now part of United Airlines, launched the Munich-New York-Newark route. Over the past 15 years, United Airlines has operated approximately 10,800 flights on this route, transporting nearly two million passengers and 41,500 tons of cargo. Today, United Airlines operates a Boeing 767-400 with 235 seats on the Newark (EWR) route and has expanded its network from Munich to include flights to Washington, Houston, Denver, Chicago, and San Francisco.
Singapore Airlines also commenced passenger flights from Munich in the summer of 2010, following a successful history of freight connections to Singapore, India, and the United States. Initially, the airline used a Boeing 777, later switching to nonstop flights to Singapore starting in October 2016. Since then, Singapore Airlines has operated nearly 10,000 flights, carrying approximately 1.7 million passengers and 96,000 tons of air freight. Munich was one of the first European cities the airline reconnected with after the pandemic, underscoring the strategic importance of the Munich hub for both the airline and its customers. Singapore Airlines currently operates an Airbus A350-900 on this route.
In July 2010, All Nippon Airways (ANA) became the third major intercontinental carrier to establish a route at Munich Airport, initially flying daily to Tokyo-Narita. Four years later, ANA switched to the more centrally located Tokyo-Haneda Airport. Over the years, ANA has operated around 8,200 flight movements, carrying approximately 1.4 million passengers and handling over 128,000 tons of air freight. The airline currently uses the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner for this route.
This 15-year partnership with United Airlines, Singapore Airlines, and ANA highlights Munich Airport’s pivotal role in international air traffic. The airport’s comprehensive route network, modern infrastructure, and prime location continue to make it a trusted and reliable partner in global aviation. The triple anniversary celebrates the enduring success of these partnerships, benefiting both passengers and the freight and logistics industry.
