WASHINGTON, DC, 2019-Nov-28 — /Travel PR News/ — Today (November 22, 2019), Representative Zoe Lofgren (CA-19) announced that Mineta San Jose International Airport secured a $10,000,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to renovate the Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting building – known as Fire Station 2.0.
“These types of infrastructure improvement projects provide a dual boost to our local economy—we provide jobs for construction workers today and build up our airport’s capacity into the future. Plus, this specific improvement project will ensure we keep both our firefighters and travelers safe,” said Rep. Lofgren. “The brave men and women who run into danger instead of running away from it need modernized spaces and equipment in order to protect the public. I will continue to support investments like this that help make Silicon Valley’s Airport safer and more effectual for travelers and first responders.”
“This grant will support a key component of SJC’s plan to safely accommodate the rapidly growing demand for air travel to and from Silicon Valley,” said John Aitken, Director of Aviation for Mineta San Jose International Airport (SJC). “Congresswoman Lofgren is a reliable champion for Silicon Valley’s Airport, and we greatly appreciate her leadership encouraging investment in critical public infrastructure.
The grant is provided as part of the FAA’s Airport Improvement Program (AIP), which funds airport infrastructure projects and was established by the Airport and Airway Improvement Act of 1982 (Public Law 97-248). Funds obligated for the AIP are drawn from the Airport and Airway Trust fund, which is supported by user fees, fuel taxes, and other similar revenue sources.
