Hotel leader has spent nearly $4 billion with diversity suppliers

2012-10-12 — /travelprnews.com/ — During its Special Awards & Top Regional Companies event, DiversityInchonored Marriott International as the top company for supplier diversity. The company was recognized for demonstrating its strength in four areas– CEO commitment, human capital, corporate and organizational communications and supplier diversity.

Over the last decade, Marriott has spent nearly $4 billion with diverse suppliers. The company is committed to increasing this number by providing opportunities within an ever-increasing diverse and inclusive supply chain. In 2011, nearly 17 percent of Marriott’s total procurement was spent with diverse suppliers and in the U.S., 9.2 percent of total payments to consultants, suppliers and vendors were awarded to women-owned businesses.

DiversityInc recognized the unique diversity-management achievements of Marriott and seven other companies. During his acceptance remarks, Arne Sorenson, Marriott president and CEO shared – “I’m very passionate about these efforts, and I’m personally committed to Marriott’s leadership in advancing supplier diversity to the forefront of our business. Our approach to diversity and inclusion is deeply rooted in our history and company culture. It is best represented by the first and most significant of our five core values, Put People First, and an emphasis on providing opportunity…to our employees, owners, guests and suppliers.”
