Manchester Airport’s Runway Visitor Park announces return of its Flight Academy programme

  • Popular Flight Academy programme made its return over school summer holidays
  • Sessions will now also run daily over the upcoming half term from Monday 25th October to Friday 29th October
  • Programme gives youngsters a chance to sit in the flight deck and pretend to be a pilot and see the roles that keep the airport running in action

Manchester, UK, 2021-Oct-12 — /Travel PR News/ — Manchester Airport’s Runway Visitor Park (RVP) has announced that its highly successful Flight Academy programme will return this October half-term after a sold-out summer run.

The long-running Flight Academy programme returned over the summer holidays and proved immensely popular with families once again.

It will now run daily from Monday 25th October to Friday 29th October. Sessions are split into two age groups – one for children aged 4-7 years and another for those aged 8-12 – and a ticket for one adult and one child costs just £10, with parking available for the full day at £5.

The 90-minute Academy sessions give kids the opportunity to learn about the different job roles that help ensure Manchester Airport remains in action throughout the year. The first part of the session takes place aboard a retired DC10 airliner where youngsters sit in the cockpit, learn about roles as varied as cabin crew and ground operators, and ‘take control’ of the flight deck, as well as getting the chance to dress up as some of the roles

They then head outside to have a look at Manchester Airport’s runways, watch planes taking off and landing and see some of the various jobs that they’ve learnt about in action.

After the session, visiting families are welcome to take their time enjoying the RVP’s widely-acclaimed facilities including stunning views over the airfield. Sights to see include watching aircraft such as the giant A380 coming and going at close quarters, taking in a tour of the Park’s retired airliners including the iconic Concorde, and making use of a sizeable play area and on-site café. Attractions cater to everyone from casual visitors to aviation enthusiasts.

Robert Hassard, Runway Visitor Park Manager, said: “After the success of this summer’s Flight Academy return, we were keen to bring the programme back for families to enjoy again this October half term.

“This is an enduringly popular family experience and has inspired many youngsters to consider a career in aviation. The RVP offers a great value day out for visitors of all ages.”

Guests can book tours and experiences online via the RVP’s website and are encouraged to visit the What’s On page for guidelines, terms, and conditions before booking.
