Manchester Airport’s Chaplaincy team joins forces with Greater Manchester Police to promote diversity and respect within multi-cultural communities

MANCHESTER, UK, 2016-Apr-15 — /Travel PR News/ — The Chaplaincy team at Manchester Airport are joining forces with Greater Manchester Police to promote diversity and respect within multi-cultural communities.

Part of a national community led initiative, ‘We stand together’ celebrates our differences, promotes respect and tolerance and builds a stronger, safer more cohesive society.

Manchester Airport Chaplaincy team already has a diverse team of male and female chaplains from different backgrounds, representing Christian, Muslim, Sikh and Jewish faiths.

Chaplaincy team member, Revd Jean Hurlston said: “Across the airport, we not only have passengers who come from all parts of the globe but we also have thousands of employees from diverse backgrounds.”

PC Jayne Blinkhorn from GMP’s Airport team added: “We have wonderfully diverse communities here in Greater Manchester with many people of different cultures passing through the Airport on a daily basis.

“It is extremely important that we promote inclusion but we must also take a stand against hate crime- discrimination and prejudice will not be tolerated here in Greater Manchester. To report an incident of hate crime, please contact Greater Manchester Police on 101 or 999 in an emergency. Alternatively , please report online to True Vision or use the True Vision app.”

The ‘we stand together’ campaign will be launched on Friday 15th April in Manchester Airport’s Terminal 3 Prayer Room with remarks from GMP Chief Inspector Umer Khan.

The event will be open to passengers and employees at the airport and will be followed by a buffet lunch. Chaplaincy team member Mr Faruk ALI will then give a short presentation about rituals around Muslim prayer.

The campaign will be rolled out across the airport’s social media accounts to highlight the positivity in promoting diversity in the workplace. Photos demonstrating the value of diverse teams working together will also feature in Manchester Airport’s Chaplaincy newsletter.
