(IN SHORT) Lufthansa has introduced a Boeing 747-8 featuring a special blue “100 Years” anniversary livery as part of celebrations marking the airline’s centennial. The aircraft, registered D-ABYN and named Niedersachsen, received its commemorative design in California and is scheduled to arrive at Frankfurt Airport on 5 March before entering commercial service the following day on a flight to Los Angeles. The Boeing 747-8 becomes the sixth aircraft in Lufthansa’s anniversary fleet, joining an Airbus A380, Airbus A350, Boeing 787-9 and two Airbus A320neo aircraft already carrying the design. (PRESS RELEASE) COLOGNE, Germany, 2026-Mar-4 — /Travel PR News/ — Lufthansa has unveiled a special anniversary livery on one of its Boeing 747-8 aircraft as part of celebrations marking the airline’s 100th anniversary. The aircraft, featuring a distinctive blue design with an oversized crane motif, is the latest addition to Lufthansa’s commemorative fleet highlighting the milestone.

The Boeing 747-8, registered D-ABYN and named “Niedersachsen,” received its new livery in San Bernardino, California. The aircraft is scheduled to return to Lufthansa’s Frankfurt hub under flight number LH9913, with its arrival expected on 5 March at around 10:00 a.m. local time. The landing is planned for Frankfurt Airport’s center runway, offering clear views for aviation enthusiasts, photographers and media.

Following its arrival in Frankfurt, the aircraft will begin regular passenger service the next day. On 6 March, the aircraft is scheduled to depart for Los Angeles, marking its first commercial route after receiving the anniversary design.

The specially painted Boeing 747-8 becomes the sixth aircraft in Lufthansa’s commemorative “100 Years” fleet, which showcases a unified design celebrating the airline’s century of aviation history. The anniversary livery features a prominent blue color scheme and a large crane symbol, the airline’s long-standing emblem.

Lufthansa recently expanded the special anniversary fleet with additional aircraft carrying the commemorative design. An Airbus A380 and an Airbus A320neo were introduced with the livery during the previous week, both arriving in Munich.

Other aircraft already operating with the anniversary design include an Airbus A350, a Boeing 787-9 and another Airbus A320neo. These aircraft are currently flying within Lufthansa’s network, displaying the celebratory branding across various routes.

The anniversary fleet will be further expanded later in the year. Lufthansa plans to add a seventh aircraft featuring the design when an Airbus A350-1000 receives the commemorative livery in autumn 2026. This aircraft will complete the special fleet created to mark the airline’s centennial celebrations.

The initiative highlights Lufthansa’s long aviation heritage while showcasing a range of aircraft types across its modern fleet, including wide-body long-haul aircraft and narrow-body short-haul jets.
