Lufthansa campaign supports schoolchildren in developing countries

2013-01-22 — /travelprnews.com/ — Lufthansa passengers who opt to check in online or via their mobile phone not only save time at the airport but can also help a good cause. As part of a campaign that runs until 31 January 2013, Lufthansa will donate one sheet of paper to schools in developing countries for each paperless check-in procedure completed by its passengers.

Even small contributions can make a big impact: 52 sheets of paper are required for an exercise book for school pupils. The exercise books themselves are purchased in the country concerned. This supports the local economy. With this initiative, Lufthansa is helping to support educational projects set up by HelpAlliance in Africa, Asia and South America. The campaign has been running since 12 December 2012, and if, as anticipated, more than two million online check-in procedures are completed by the end of January, it will provide about 40,000 exercise books for children in need.

HelpAlliance is a non-profit-making organisation that was founded in 1999 by staff members from all parts of the Lufthansa Group. Its humanitarian aid activities focus on food and health programmes, schools, training facilities, orphanages and projects for street children. The aim is to promote self-sufficiency among people in need and to empower them to take action to improve their own living conditions.
