TIRANA, Albania, 2017-May-09 — /Travel PR News/ — Today, on May 4th 2017, Lufthansa is celebrating its ten year anniversary of continuous flight service between Germany and Albania. Ten years ago, in May 2007, Lufthansa started its regular, non-stop service from its hub in Munich to Tirana. Today, the connection links the Albanian capital with Lufthansa’s biggest hub in Frankfurt. Passengers from Albania have the possibility to reach Frankfurt every day, allowing them to easily connect onward to more than 170 destinations in over 70 countries worldwide.
On occasion of this special anniversary, there will be a celebration at the Tirana International Airport upon arrival of the Lufthansa flight number LH1424 arriving from Frankfurt. The anniversary flight will be operated today, by the brand new Airbus A320, which is the world’s most quiet and fuel efficient short and medium haul aircraft. At the event there will be a special Hollywood guest appearance from the famous Albanian actress Eliza Dushku, who will be the face of this year’s 9th FAI World Paragliding Accuracy Championship, beginning tomorrow.
“We are very proud to be here today to celebrate our history in Albania. Together with Austrian Airlines we have, over the years, built up a strong market position over the years and we are looking forward to further develop this in the future”, said Mr. Alexander Tolweth, General Manager Sales in Albania.
“Congratulations for Lufthansa and its 10th Anniversary in Albania, said Dr. Rolf Castro-Vasquez, Chief Executive Officer of Tirana International Airport. “The operations are very efficent and we are very positive on the coming years for a very fruitful cooperation between Lufthansa and Tirana International Airport” he added.
Besides the Frankfurt route, the Lufthansa Group also connects Albania with Vienna via its Austrian Airlines brand, with a twice daily departure from Tirana International Airport. With both airlines combined, the Lufthansa Group firmly holds its position as the second largest airline group- in terms of capacity – operating out of Albania. Every fifth seat offered belongs to one of the Lufthansa Group carriers, with a total of 21 weekly flights to/from Tirana. In 2016 Lufthansa Group welcomed more than 220,000 passengers on board its Tirana flights, which is an increase of 10% compared to the previous year.
