London City Airport welcomes BA CityFlyer’s resumption of flights to Geneva

  • Flights between London City Airport and Geneva to resume from Saturday 19th December
  • 4x weekly service restores key international connection for business and leisure travel – LCY’s ninth most popular route last year

London, UK, 2020-Dec-16 — /Travel PR News/ —London City Airport has welcomed the resumption of flights to Geneva (GVA) from Saturday 19th December.

Four flights per week, operated by the airport’s home-based carrier BA CityFlyer, will connect passengers from London’s most central airport to Geneva – a global financial centre and key winter tourist destination.

The route was London City Airport’s ninth most popular in 2019, connecting 190,308 passengers between London and Switzerland’s second largest city.

Welcoming the return of the flights to Geneva, London City Airport’s Head of Aviation, Anne Doyere, said:

“This is a welcome Christmas boost for the airport and for our passengers who wish to travel to Geneva for leisure or business in the next few weeks, or to be reunited with friends and family over the festive period”.

“Geneva is a key centre for international business and finance, and a hub for leisure travellers to access the winter ski resorts in the Alps. We are delighted that London City has been able to restore this vital connection in the run up to Christmas”.

“We are hopeful that this news, alongside the positive developments on testing and quarantine in recent weeks, will increase passenger confidence and enable our airlines to schedule more routes and rotations throughout the winter season”.

This announcement comes ahead of the start of the UK’s Test to Release scheme tomorrow. Passengers arriving at the airport from Geneva from 19th December will be able to take a test after five days of self-isolation and be released from quarantine immediately after receiving a negative test result.

Alongside industry partners, London City Airport is calling on the Government to build on this recent momentum by working towards the introduction of a globally consistent pre-departure testing regime which ultimately eliminates the need for quarantine altogether.

A survey of 500 business leaders undertaken by the airport in September showed strong underlying demand for air travel, which could be unlocked by using new technology to enable pre-departure tests and COVID-secure flights.
