2013-06-11 — /travelprnews.com/ — London City Airport has been named the best airport of its size in Europe at an industry awards ceremony.
The 9th annual ACI Europe Best Airport Awards took place in Istanbul on Monday [10th June], where LCY was announced as the winner of the 1-5 million passenger category for the second year running.
The judges awarded the prize to the airport for its streamlined passenger experience which is at the heart of its corporate strategy.
Declan Collier, Chief Executive of London City Airport said: “It is an honour to win this award and for the second consecutive year, demonstrating how hard the LCY team works to deliver consistently high standards and implement new initiatives.”
ACI Europe counts over 450 airports in 46 countries among its membership and LCY faced stiff competition in its category. The judging panel highlighted the rapid and pleasant transit through the airport as a key factor in selecting it as the winner.
Mr Collier continued: “Location, convenience and speed of transit are London City Airport’s unique propositions – key benefits to the passenger of which we are justly proud and committed to maintaining and enhancing as we move into our next phase of growth.
“65 per cent of our passengers are business travellers and they demand that LCY provides service quality and a premium experience. We pride ourselves on the business-class standard we operate to and this award demonstrates that our industry peers recognise what we do and consider LCY to be leading the way for the industry.”
The awards were announced during the opening reception of the joint ACI Europe and ACI World Annual Congress and Exhibition. The event is attended by more than 800 industry representatives.

London City Airport (LCY) is the only London airport situated in London itself, just three miles from Canary Wharf, seven miles from the City and 10 miles from London’s West End and linked to all via the Docklands Light Railway. Catering for over 3 million passengers and 70,000 movements annually, in 2012 LCY celebrated its millionth flight, 36 millionth passenger and 25 years of operation. LCY offers a unique rapid transit proposition – a short check in, door to lounge, and a shorter arrival, tarmac to train. 11 airlines fly out of LCY, serving 47 destinations, eight of which were new for 2012, with six further announced in 2013. The airport has permission to increase its operation to 120,000 movements per annum, which it intends to do by 2023. Further information about the airport please browse our website.
