Liverpool John Lennon Airport welcomes the abolition of Air Passenger Duty for children

Liverpool John Lennon Airport has welcomed today’s news in the Autumn Statement that the Chancellor George Osborne has announced the abolition of Air Passenger Duty (APD) for children under the age of 12 from 1st May 2015 and for children under the age of 16 the following year.

Liverpool, UK, 2014-12-4 — /Travel PR News/ — Liverpool along with other airport operators across the UK have lobbied the Government for some time over this unfair tax, arguing that it should be completely scrapped in order to help the aviation industry generate improvements to the economy through more business, jobs, investment and visitors to the UK.

LJLA hosted representatives from the Tax Payers Alliance in the Summer to raise awareness with families travelling on flights from Liverpool and is pleased to see that the Government has listened to the industry’s concerns.

Robin Tudor, Head of PR for Liverpool John Lennon Airport commented, “This is good news for families from across the region who choose to fly from Liverpool John Lennon Airport, who will now be able to save £13 per child on flights from here.

APD remains a barrier to airline growth in the UK though and we will continue to campaign for the abolition of APD for all passengers in order to stimulate the market, particularly at airports such as Liverpool where low cost airlines are dominant.”
