Leipzig/Halle Airport welcomes Freebird Airlines Europe’s services to Greece

The airline, which is based in Malta, is flying to the Greek islands of Crete, Kos and Rhodes, partly on behalf of the TUI travel company.

Sundair will take off from Dresden Airport heading to Rhodes and Heraklion (Crete) from 16 May. Kos and Corfu are additional timetable destinations from 3 and 29 June onwards.

Test facilities at the airport

Passengers currently need a negative PCR test to travel to Greece. This test may not be more than 72 hours old. It is also necessary to have the test results issued in English.

A private operator provides these kinds of tests for a fee at the “Co Care Covid19 Test Centre” at Leipzig/Halle Airport and Dresden Airport. You can arrange appointments for the antigen rapid and PCR tests directly with the provider online.

Those travelling to Greece, who can provide evidence of their complete vaccination through a written certificate (written in English and citing the full name of the person travelling, the vaccination, the number of vaccination doses) and have completed this process 14 days before entering the country, do not require any certification about a negative PCR test, according to travel information provided by the German Foreign Ministry.

Airlines and tour operators are constantly adapting their services as a result of travel warnings and quarantine regulations. Changes to the timetable at short notice are therefore possible. Protecting people’s health is the top priority

The Central German airports already made extensive arrangements to protect the health of passengers, visitors, partners and employees after the first lockdown last year.

People have to wear a face mask in the terminals. Vending machines are available in front of the buildings and people can purchase FFP2 masks there.

Protective plastic panels have been installed at the check-in desks and for the boarding card checks. Monitors, signs and announcements remind passengers and visitors to comply with the behaviour and hygiene regulations. Markings have also been attached to the floor to remind people of the current social distancing rules in the check-in area and during security checks, for example. Seating facilities are also provided with distance markers.

Passengers also have to wear a face mask during flights. They should obtain information about the current regulations in advance from their airline or their tour operator. The same applies to the entry conditions in the destination country and the hygiene regulations that are valid there.

Information for passengers

In order to be able to start their flight in as relaxed a manner as possible, passengers should arrive at the airport at least 2.5 hours before departure and use the online check-in facilities. The pandemic makes additional formalities at check-in necessary, so passengers should plan for longer waiting times than normal.

No more than one item of hand luggage is allowed on board.

Returning to Germany

All those returning to Germany from abroad have had to submit to a test since 30 March 2021. All persons wishing to enter Germany by plane must present a negative Covid-19 test to their airline before departure. They are not allowed to travel without the negative test result. Passengers are therefore requested to obtain information directly from their airline or their tour operator about how the Covid-19 tests, which are essential, are conducted before their return flight.

Low-cost parking right next to the airports

Passengers can park their car at prices starting from EUR 15 per week at the Central German airports. This is possible at the P4 car park at Leipzig/Halle Airport or the P4A car park at Dresden Airport using the online booking service. You can find more information at: www.mdf-ag.com
