Los Angeles, California, 2017-Aug-06 — /Travel PR News/ — Van Nuys Airport (VNY) becomes the only general aviation airport to hold level 2 reduction in Airport Council International’s Airport Carbon Accreditation program furthering the airport’s goal to become a greener, cleaner and more efficient airport for all stakeholders.
The Airport Carbon Accreditation program recognizes airports worldwide for both reducing and committing to further manage their carbon footprint with the ultimate goal of carbon neutrality. In May 2017, VNY committed to 5% emissions reduction from 2013 by 2025 with consideration of financial, operational, business and reporting requirements, available technologies, and monitoring constraints.
“This honor is one example of VNY’s commitment to being a world-class leader in service and a partner in the community,” said Board of Airports Commissioner, Jeffery Daar. Airport Manager, Flora Margheritis, added “VNY has one of the most stringent environmental programs for a general aviation airport and is also committed to recycling and sustainability.” Improvements will be made in VNY’s use of electricity, natural gas, and fuels in LAWA owned and operated facilities.
Airport Carbon Accreditation Level 2 Reduction requires airports to quantify their carbon output during a set time period, to submit carbon management plans, and to show progress towards achieving a reduced carbon footprint. Independent verification is conducted biennially to monitor progress towards meeting emissions reduction goals, which are measured against metrics submitted to and approved by the Airport Carbon Accreditation.
