Las Vegas takes actions against privacy invasion

LAS VEGAS, 2013-07-02 — /travelprnews.com/ — Las Vegas today publically offered encouragements to organizations affected by the actions found in recent reports regarding data mining and privacy invasion outlining how to protect travelers’ “What Happens Here, Stays Here” moments while in the destination. By sending open letters to the heads of major Internet and telecommunication companies affected as noted in recent news, the destination declared its support of the company leaders’ resistance to data requests and reminded them to remain strong and mindful of American’s values of freedom and privacy.

“Las Vegas sets the standard of keeping the ‘Only Vegas’ moments of our guests under wraps,” said Cathy Tull, senior vice president of marketing for the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. “Just as one’s activities while on vacation in the adult playground should be confidential, so should one’s phone records and Internet behavior, especially as those activities relate to Las Vegas getaways.”

The open letters were mailed to companies across the United States who were affected by the recent metadata scandals, including Verizon, AT&T, Google, AOL and Facebook. Additionally, an advertisement in USA Today was issued to reassure the public of Las Vegas’ stance on the issue of data surveillance, and share the destination’s support for the companies dealing with this invasion of privacy.

The advert features the same copy sent directly to the companies encouraging them to protect all mentions of Vegas from prying eyes and ears. A call to action asks the companies to reply with any requests for Vegas information to simply say no and reply with “What Happens Here, Stays Here,” and further urges them to “know the code.”
