Korean Air Partners with Boeing in Defense Industry
Seoul, Korea , 2012-10-9 — /travelprnews.com/ — Korean Air signed an MOU creating a closer partnership with Boeing in the defense sector, with areas of cooperation including service and MRO collaboration on drones (UAVs) and rotorcraft.
Present at the signing ceremony were June Chul Choi, senior vice president of the Aerospace division of Korean Air and Mark Kronenberg vice president, International Business Development for Boeing Defense, Space & Security. The collaboration will focus on rotorcraft, fixed-wing aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and military aircraft maintenance and support opportunities.
By strengthening its cooperation with Boeing, Korean Air is becoming one of the most dynamic aerospace companies in Asia with proficiency in aircraft manufacturing, remodeling and performance. This partnership will, no doubt, support the country of Korea’s aviation technology, as well as expand both Boeing’s and Korean Air’s business in the growing global aero-defense industry.
The two companies will create an action plan, formulated by a key Korean Air and Boeing executives.
Korean Air started civil aircraft parts manufacturing in 1986, producing wing structures for the B747. Since then, it has been supplying wing and body structures for B717s, B737s, B767s, B777s, B787s and B747-8s. Korean Air also is a member of the international development team for Boeing’s B787 Dreamliner and is designing and manufacturing wing & body structures.
Boeing has lauded Korean Air for several times as “The year’s best business partner” and this partnership will contribute to the resources and knowledge of both companies.
