(IN SHORT) KLM, Transavia, and the construction consortium Visser & Smit Bouw | Croonwolter&dros have launched the redevelopment of Hangar 10 at Schiphol-East, marking the first time that both airlines’ aircraft maintenance will occur under one roof. Starting on April 7 with the symbolic launch of Transavia’s new workshop, this project will transform the 14,500 m² hangar into an energy-efficient, open-plan facility. In addition, two new office buildings will raise the overall floor area to approximately 27,000 m². As part of KLM Group’s High Impact Projects, this redevelopment is set to be the first gas-free hangar in the region and will pursue BREEAM certification for sustainability. The initiative is a cornerstone in modernizing aircraft maintenance and will also support pilot training through The Link training center, which houses flight simulators for both companies. The construction of the KLM E&M Tech Center will commence later this year, with the entire project expected to progress significantly by 2026.

(PRESS RELEASE) AMSTELVEEN, 2025-Apr-8 — /Travel PR News/ — KLM, Transavia, and the Construction Consortium Visser & Smit Bouw | Croonwolter&dros have embarked on a groundbreaking project with the symbolic launch of Transavia’s new workshop in Hangar 10 on April 7. This project marks the first time that aircraft maintenance for both KLM and Transavia will be conducted under a single roof. The construction of the Transavia Greenbase has now begun, with the KLM E&M Tech Center construction scheduled to follow later this year.

This initiative represents a major milestone in aviation maintenance innovation and efficiency. By redeveloping Hangar 10 into an energy-efficient facility with an open layout and abundant natural light, the partners are laying the foundation for a modern working environment to support the maintenance of the new Airbus aircraft for both KLM and Transavia. Alongside the renovation of the existing 14,500 m² hangar, two new office buildings will be added, expanding the total floor area to around 27,000 m².

Described by Sylca Vellinga, VP Real Estate & Facility Contracting, as the “first gas-free building at Schiphol-East,” this project is part of KLM Group’s High Impact Projects. The redevelopment will also pursue BREEAM certification, an internationally recognized standard for assessing building sustainability and energy efficiency. This transformation not only ensures that fleet renewal extends beyond aircraft acquisition, but also modernizes hangars and enhances workforce training through initiatives such as The Link—a new training center featuring five flight simulators shared by both airlines. With operations for Transavia and KLM now physically united, the project underscores the joint commitment to innovation, sustainability, and operational excellence, with significant progress expected through 2026.
